John Birmingham (filmmaker)

John Birmingham, (known by "John Angel" from 2012-2014), is an American filmmaker, actor and musician. John graduated Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Communications, concentration in Screenwriting, and Chapman University with a MFA in Film Production. He writes/directs/produces/composes/stars in and sometimes edits feature films, music videos, short films and other film and video related content. John is best known as auteur of 3 feature films completed as such: Crazy Animal, The Vampires of Zanzibar and Rednecks. Crazy Animal sneak previewed in Park City at Tromadance 2006 and also played at the Cannes International Film Festival and Market in 2009 with Troma Entertainment and screened other film festivals and conventions. It has roles by John Birmingham, Ron Jeremy, Lloyd Kaufman and Brinke Stevens. It was released worldwide on March 31, 2009 by Troma Entertainment. John's second feature film, The Vampires of Zanzibar, has roles by Brandon Dicamillo and Chris Raab ("Raab Himself") of Jackass/Viva La Bam/CKY and Eerie Von of Samhain/Danzig. The Vampires of Zanzibar and videos about the movie currently have more than 300,000 views on Youtube. However, the film has not yet been released. Rednecks is currently awaiting a video and possible theatrical release and has screened various conventions. Aside from producing these musical feature films, John has worked as a production designer and set decorator on feature films such as the Full Moon Studios releases Horror Vision and Stitches, as well as Mitch Rouse's major independent feature Nobody Knows Anything with cameos by Mike Myers, Ben Stiller, Margaret Cho and many others. John has had the privilege to either star in or direct films involving Ed Asner (PSA titled "The Potential"), Pauly Shore (DVD Host for John's short film Rebel Fish), Peter Medak (John's professor at Chapman University) and many other Hollywood greats. One of his more recent projects include a film he is Co-producer on, cinematographer and acts in, by Tracy Lee Staton, called Deadlines. John is a co-producer on and has a role as "Bruce" in the 2012 remake of Plan 9 From Outerspace titled Plan 9. Plan 9 stars Brian Krause and other Youtube celebrities such as The Angry Video Game Nerd.
In John's home life, he was married to and divorced from filmmaker and actress Danica DeCosto, with whom he had two children, Rowan Michael Birmingham (born 2006) and Ivan Blake Birmingham (born 2009). Ivan stars in the YouTube music video Super Toddler and other films and videos, and Rowan stars in a YouTube video which has received over 1,000,000 views titled Toddler Sees Ghost as well as some film roles. Both Rowan and Ivan star in their mother Danica DeCosto's Youtube videos which have achieved 5 million views just as of November 2014-February 2015.
